Rules:
For FGPLC Season 3, autumn 2000
Aug 22 2000

General:

1) Finnish Grand Prix Legends Championship (FGPLC) is open to all living in Finland. This is mainly to guarantee best possible online connections.

2) You need Grand Prix Legends retail version updated to v1.2.0.1 (patch available at www.papy.com).

3) People are required to join our mailing list at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/finnish_gpl_champs. Vital information through the course of the season is passed by the list, as well as tips, jokes and other important stuff. So be sure to join! Also, IRC is used for pre- and post-race chats and for exchanging information and files. Please make sure you have an IRC program installed. mIRC is a good program. FGPLC meeting place is at IRCNet servers, channel #gpl. Mika Takala has written a Finnish version of DUN Tweak Guide found at Alison Hine's and VROC pages. Check it out if you're a modem user.

4)The season schedule is posted on the schedule page. All races are one week apart. The race session consists of 30 min practice session and about 2 hours of racing. This year all races in Division 1 are full lenght races and in Division 2 half lenght races. This is yet to be confirmed. The practice session will determine the starting grid for the race. The races are run with realistic damage.

5)FGPLC will consist of one or several divisions, depending on the number of signed up drivers. After the season starts no more sign ups will be allowed. This also means that FGPLC requires a "maximum" level of commitment from its drivers. Do not sign up if you are unsure about being able to participate in most races. In previous seasons the biggest problem has been the loss of drivers in too many races. Each division has 18 drivers, or 9 2-man teams if you will.

6)Division-2 starts qualifying at 19.00. Division-1 starts qualifying at 21.00. This is yet to be confirmed.

7) This series is managed by the council of three drivers. Sampo Peltonen and Samuli Takala answer for the FGPLC technical issues. Wesa Saarela answers for the FGPLC communications. Should there be any question about these rules or should some issues arise that are not in the rules, they will make the final judgement. These guys believe in limited democracy so feel free to express your thoughts to them.

Sign-up:

8)You sign-up when you registrate to FGPLC -site, simple as that.

Car selection:

9)Every team choose two car marquees for the season, one from Class A and one from Class B. Class A -marquees: Lotus/Eagle/Ferrari/Brabham, Class B marquees: BRM/Cooper/Honda.

10)Season contains 14 races and every team has to decide before the first race which 7 races it drives in Class A car and which 7 it drives in Class B car. No other restrictions are made. When teams have chosen their marquees we look at it and debate with the teams of the possible adjustments. We believe nobody wants a series where can only be seen green hulks (Lotus) and white whales (Honda).

for example:

	17.09.2000 Kyalami 80 laps - Ferrari
	24.09.2000 Österreichring 50 laps - BRM
	01.10.2000 Mosport 90 laps - Ferrari
	08.10.2000 Spa-Francorchamps 28 laps - Ferrari
	15.10.2000 Monaco 100 laps - Ferrari
	22.10.2000 Monza 68 laps - BRM
	29.10.2000 Mexico 65 laps - BRM
	05.11.2000 Zandvort 90 laps - Ferrari
	12.11.2000 Imola 64 laps - BRM
	19.11.2000 Nürburgring 15 laps - Ferrari
	26.11.2000 Rouen 60 laps - BRM
	03.12.2000 Silverstone 80 laps - BRM
	10.12.2000 Solitude 35 laps - BRM
	17.12.2000 Watkins Glen 108 laps - Ferrari

Races:

11) There will be two appointed race marshalls for each race. Their job is to mainly handle any complaints filed after the race. If they are not appointed, they will be chosen for each case individually.

12) A 30 minute practice session before each race is used to determine the grid.

13) Race lengths are given on the schedule.

14) Points will be awarded for each race as following to the drivers and teams:

	1st	15 points
	2nd	11 points
	3rd 9 points
	4th 7 points
	5th 6 points
	6th 5 points
	7th 4 points
	8th 3 points
	9th 2 points
       10th 1 point

15) Only those drivers who complete 90% of the laps driven by the winner score points. This is calculated so that winner's laps are multiplied by 0.9 and then rounded down. So, if the winner completes 60 laps, the required number of laps to be classified will be 60 * 0.9 = 54.

16) If a race is stopped for any reason before the leader has completed 50% of the race, no points are given for that race. Possible rescheduling will be considered.

17) if a race is stopped for any reason before the leader has completed 75% of the race, only half points are given for that race. There will be no rescheduling.

Championship:

18) Only 13 (of 14) races count towards the championships. The worst result for each driver will be dropped in the final standings.

19) The driver with the most points at the end of the season will be the drivers' champion.

20) The team with the most points at the end of the season will be the teams' champion

Procedures to follow on the track:

21) During all sessions drivers are to race safe and avoid crashing with other drivers. It is assumed that all drivers are familiar with normal racing procedures and conventions and abide by them. EVERY DRIVER MUST READ PHILIP MCNELLEY'S EXCELLENT DRIVER BEHAVIOUR PAGE, preferably more than once.

22) When exiting the pits during practice, a driver must be very careful not to block anyone starting a fast lap. (At the Nürburgring this is especially important, since the warmup-lap takes over 8 minutes.)

23) Whenever exiting the pits during practice or race, a driver is to announce this by a chat message such as "Pit Out" or "PO".

24) During practice, a driver on the warm-up lap is to give way to any driver approaching him from behind.

25) During practice, after completing the last fast-lap of current outing, driver is adviced to stop his car in a safe place as soon as possible and exit the car. No cool-down laps please as you may end up blocking someone on his flying lap.

26) During race, if more than 50% of drivers are out before the leader has started the 2nd lap (at the Nürburgring, when the leader has reached Berwerk on the 1st lap), the race will be restarted. No practice session will be held.

27) Chatting during race is to be kept at the absolute minimum. It is ok to announce you're out of the race or leaving the server however, with a message such as "I'm out" or "CYA". If you want to chat with someone, please send a message to a specific driver (example: "/m.hakkinen what was that?", see readme12.txt in you GPL folder for more details).

28) Black-flag: Drivers who for some reason are black-flagged are to show in good time their intention to pit and if rejoining the track after a stop-n-go send a "Exiting Pits" chat message (see rule 23).

Penalties:

29) When a driver feels he has been a victim of misconduct, he must bring the subject to the attention of the race marshalls' within 7 days from the race day. Although server replays of the races should be available, the driver should save a client replay of the event and make it available for the marshalls. It seems we will not be able to get full server replay of the races (div1 - not enough memory on server), so it is especially important to save your own replay.

30) The marshalls will examine the incident, and point out possible offender(s). Punishments are then dealt out by the race marshalls and series managers.

31) As most crashes can be classified as "racing accidents" where there is quite hard to find anyone to blame, you should consider really carefully before filing a complaint. You may yourself be found quilty! This is especially true in online racing, because warping and limited visibility makes it hard to predict what others are doing.

32) If the marshalls or the series manager is one of the parties at the incident, another person with no connection to the incident will be appointed to replace him.
